Maggie and Negan are having a blast in this new teaser for season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan talk about the changing dynamic that awaits fans in this new chapter of the saga.
After years of hatred and revenge, Maggie and Negan could finally bury the hatchet.
The Walking Dead’s most unlikely duo is back in a new teaser for season 3 of Dead City, which announces a radical change of tone for the spin-off worn by Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
“We have a new energy this year,” explains the interpreter of Maggie Rhee, in this behind-the-scenes video. A turn confirmed by his competitive batting, which promises “a completely new tone and new relationships”.
At the heart of this development: the violent act committed by Maggie in the finale of season 2. After years of resentment linked to Glenn’s murder, she finally stabbed Negan, a gesture interpreted as final revenge. But the new season seems to want to tell something else.
“I’m tired of being angry. Aren’t you?”, says Maggie in the images revealed by AMC. A sentence which suggests that the two survivors could finally overcome their mutual hatred to build a much more complex relationship. The teaser alternates scenes of bloody action against the prowlers and more intimate moments between the characters, portraying two fighters who seem to have exhausted all their energy in the conflict and must now learn to move forward together.

This change also happens behind the scenes. Seth Hoffman takes the helm of season 3, replacing series creator Eli Jorné. Already a writer on several episodes of the parent series The Walking Dead, Hoffman brings a new approach to the series.
On the plot side, this development also results in a new mission: Maggie and Negan will try to rebuild Manhattan, transforming the island devastated by zombies into a territory capable of regaining a semblance of civilization.
Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City will launch on July 26, 2026 on AMC and AMC+.
