Mélanie Thierry, Carole Bouquet and Marina Foïs are Captive (trailer)
The three actresses are starring in a historical drama set in a psychiatric hospital.
Ten years after the bitter Michael Kohlaas with Mads Mikkelsen, Captives is the new historical drama ofArnaud des Pallières. The change of scenery is complete: we are in France, in 1894, and Fanni (Melanie Thierry) is voluntarily interned to find his mother, locked up in an insane asylum for twenty-nine years. Under the tyrannical supervision of nurses (Josiane Balasko And Marina Fois), Fanni will prepare her escape by using the traditional costume ball organized each year to her advantage… Carole BouquetAnd Yolande Moreau also roam the corridors of the asylum.
While necessarily evoking The Fools’ Ball of Melanie Laurent with Lou de Laage (released in 2021 on Amazon), adapted from a novel by Victoria Mas with an almost similar subject, the trailer immediately reminds us of the soaring influence of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Milos Forman1976), and the austere expression of Marina Fois is reminiscent of that of Miss Ratched (Louise Fletcher). The trailer promises us a labyrinthine story in which Melanie Thierry gets lost in search of his mother and can only count on the help of his companions in internment to hope to escape. Accustomed to historical films since Michael Kohlaas in 2013 and a short film on Degas in 2019, Arnaud des Pallières will see his film released in theaters on January 24, 2024. Melanie Thierry is also showing in Suddenly Alonecurrently in cinemas.
