The Godmother of Thieves will return in a drama series on the platform. One of the strong announcements made at Séries Mania.
At the Series Mania Festival, Larry TanzNetflix vice president for EMEA Content, revealed the new shows ordered by France and the Netherlands, including a thriller series with Isabelle Adjani. The actress reiterates her collaboration with the streaming platform, for whom she took on the role of Godmother in Thieveswith the fine team of Melanie Laurentcomposed ofAdèle Exarchopoulos And Manon Bresch.
“Netflix collaborates with more than 400 production companies in EMEA. A creative ambition which represents, for the month of March alone, more than 40 shoots in Europe”, has indicated Larry Tanzin a press release.
Even without a title, the series already has a promising storyline:
It will be “a contemporary and captivating reinterpretation of a traditional French genre”. The plot revolves around Alba, a mother on the run who finds an unexpected opportunity to bounce back by becoming a picker on a prestigious flower farm in Provence. However, the latter has come to the forefront since the suspicious death of the patriarch. As she confronts the accusers, she makes a disturbing discovery. It is ironically at the top of the deceased's will.
A bit of Jean de Florette…
The series is created by Nils Antoine Sambuc and will be led by Marie Jardillier. The company UGC, Route Productions is responsible for production.
Larry Tanz took advantage of this Netflix panel organized at Séries Mania to discuss the lack of flexibility in investment requirements linked to local applications of the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive and argued that these quotas could harm creativity.
“In France, Netflix signed a three-year agreement to invest a minimum of 40 million euros in financing French and European films that will be released in French theaters, he said. Then Tanz cited Spain as a country where investment quotas are more flexible, and where Netflix boasts a pipeline full of content.
The streaming platform also announces that it has recently filmed the series Kaosa mythological black comedy project created by Charlie Covell, with Jeff Goldblum, as well as The cagea show by Franck Gastambide (The Kaira) taking place in the world of MMA. Without forgetting the preview broadcast of the first episodes of Three-Body Problemthe highly anticipated new series from the creators of Game of Thrones, as part of this festival based in Lille. Season 1, consisting of 8 episodes, can be seen on Netflix from March 21, 2024.
