Nicolas Cage almost returned to play Ghost Rider in Deadpool & Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds reveals: “We tried to bring him in, but…”

There were many beautiful people in Deadpool & Wolverine. A bunch of guests came to do the show in the Marvel film, from Wesley Snipes in Blade at Jennifer Garner to Elektra via Chris Evans as Johnny Storm.

And Ryan Reynolds reveals today that Nicolas Cage was also to return, under the helmet of the Ghost Rider ! In Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, he confides: “We thought of him in the first drafts of the script. And also the return of Ben Affleck as Daredevil! We had versions of this sequence on paper, but then, as things unfolded, we wondered if it was even reasonable. Because we also tried to make the film responsibly. It’s a big budget. It’s the biggest budget of all the Deadpool films, but you also have to know how to put constraints on yourself to stimulate creativity. If you have too much time or too much money, it usually kills that creativity.”

That being said, Ryan Reynolds has indeed approached Nicolas Cagewho declined:

“Yes, we talked to Nic Cage. We tried to get him to come, but he wouldn’t accept… I would have loved to…”

Perhaps to reduce costs, the fee offered was not attractive enough for the star, who no longer played Ghost Rider since 2012 and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Recently, Nicolas Cage had also declared about the MCU: “I see all kinds of things, independent and artistic films. Truly, there is something for everyone. But I don’t need to join the MCU, I’m Nic’ Cage.”
