Paul Mescal becomes Shakespeare: First photos of Hamnet
The new film by Chloe Zhao, the Oscar -winning director of Nomadland.
After the big failure of Eternal For Marvel, Chloé Zhao is back with a new more intimate project.
The Oscar -winning director of Nomadland sign Hamnetthat she co-wrote with Maggie O’Farrell according to her novel published in 2020, a film in costumes which revisits the life of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes, after the death of their 11-year-old son, Hamnet.
The casting brings together two actors appointed to the Oscars: Paul Mescal (Gladiator 2) in the role of William Shakespeare and Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter) in that of his wife. They are accompanied by Joe Alwyn (Bartholomew), from the double named to the Emily Watson Oscars (Breaking The Waves,, Hilary and Jackie) In the role of Mary, Jacobi JUPE (HAMNET), Jack Shalloo (Marcellus) and David Wilmot (John).
Six images were unveiled, most of which are centered on Agnes, embodied by Buckley, confirming his central role in the plot. True to the novel by Maggie O’Farrell, Hamnet puts more emphasis on Shakespeare’s wife than on the playwright itself, interpreted by a habited Paul Mescal.
These first images suggest that, as Nomadlandwhich had earned two Oscars in Chloé Zhao (best film and best director), Hamnet Will be an intimate drama, both lush and of great delicacy, told through the eyes of Agnes Shakespeare.
Hamnet Will be presented at the Toronto Festival at the start of the school year and will be released in November in the USA. No French date yet.
