“Respect the environment”: Filming of Jurassic World 4 begins in Thailand
With Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend… under the direction of Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, The Creator).
Universal having set the release of the 4th opus of Jurassic World from summer 2025, the blockbuster by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One, The Creator…) is already beginning its filming, its casting barely revealed in dribs and drabs.
Next to Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), who was the first to sign for this sequel, we should find Jonathan Bailey (The Bridgerton Chronicles), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Six Underground), Mahershala Ali (Green Book), Rupert Friend (Pride and Prejudice), Luna Blaise (Manifesto) and David Ianoco (The Summer I Turned Pretty). Jurassic World 4 is written by David Koepthe co-writer of Jurassic Park and Lost World by Steven Spielberg, but we don't yet know his pitch. However, according to Glen Powell, an actor who refused to be the male star, “the story is great and the film is going to be a hit!”

Shooting has just started in Thailand, on location, and will then continue in the studio in Malta and the United Kingdom. We do not yet know which actors are expected in Bangkok, Trang, Phang Nga, Phuket, Chiang Mai, at Huai To Waterfall or at Khao Phanom Bencha park in Krabi province, but all these locations suggest that the filmmaker has chosen splendid natural places to film Jurassic World 4 (also called Jurassic City). Which was already the case for his last achievement, The Creatorfilmed in South East Asia between beaches, mountains, rice fields and fishing ports.
This filming in Thailand should last a month, precisely until July 16, and bring in around 18 million dollars in the country, a large team having to be housed, fed, moved for the different shots… Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, the Thai Minister of the Environment, welcomed the choice of producers Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, to film this sequel in several key locations in the country, saying he “honored” for Thailand to be shown in its best light in a blockbuster of this magnitude. He also says he takes care to ensure that the environment is respected during shooting, but also once the film is released in the cinema:
“We are very strict towards the companies that want to film here, they must be fully aware of the environmental protection measures, and they must put everything in place so as not to damage natural resources. We ask them to respect the environment.”
Varietywho relays his words, recalls that 25 years ago, the filming of The beach, by Danny Boyle and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, had led to massive tourism on the island of Phi Phi, which had caused great damage to the local environment, particularly in Maya Bay. This fine sand beach with transparent water, usually attracting dozens of underwater species, had seen its entire ecosystem turned upside down. It has only recently been able to regain its beauty and wildlife, after being closed to tourists for several years.
Jurassic World 4 is due to be released in theaters on July 2, 2024. The stars of the previous films are not expected to be there.
