Ryan Reynolds announces he is stopping the Deadpool films!
The actor qualifies and specifies that he could still make appearances in the MCU. But no longer at the center of the plot.
It’s a franchise that has grossed $3 billion in 3 films. And yet, Dead Pool should no longer have a sequel to his name in the years to come.
Ryan Reynolds confirmed in an interview with Sunday Today that he no longer plans to wear Dead Pool starring in a new solo film.
He explains that he already has ideas written, for different things, but closes the door to one Deadpool 4 :
“I have things already written a little bit around him, but I don’t think I’ll put Deadpool at the center of a story again. For me, he is now a secondary character. He is someone who works very well in a group, but more so as a solo…”
Surprising when we know that Deadpool & Wolverinereleased in 2024, is the last big success of the MCU with 1.3 billion dollars at the worldwide box office. The first two parts, released in 2016 and 2018, grossed more than $750 million each.
But for the actor, the future of the character is clear:
“Deadpool works great with the X-Men or the Avengers, but he has to remain an outsider.”
It also specifies the emotional logic of the character: “His dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he cannot be accepted…”
Ryan Reynolds goes even further on the very structure of films: “Putting him at the center of the plot only works if you take everything away from him and put his back against the wall. I can’t really do this again. We already did it. A fourth time would be redundant.” That being said, Ryan Reynolds nuance: he does not completely say goodbye to the characternnage.
“That doesn’t mean we’re taking away the fun. There’s still an arc for Deadpool that can be strong and satisfying.”
Rumors indeed suggest a return of the crazy mutant in Avengers: Doomsdaybut the actor has already suggested that he is not confirmed, preferring the idea of occasional appearances in the films of the MCU troupe, of which he is now officially a part.
