Season 3 of The Pitt will begin with a small jump in time
The medical series will go into winter mode.
It’s possibly the best series on the small screen at the moment.
The Pitt has just completed its season 2, still as frenetic, as exciting as ever. And the medical drama will return. Season 3 will soon enter production so that it can be broadcast next year.
The creator of the series, R. Scott Gemmill, says more in an interview with TVLIne, and reveals that the story will resume after a short time jump, on a day in November, four months after the events of season 2, which took place during the July 4 weekend. A much shorter ellipse than that between seasons 1 and 2.
An assumed choice: “We will only make a four-month jump. We will start in November. It fulfills several objectives for us. It allows us to have situations in winter, but also to keep certain characters a little longer. Big leaps in time are not always ideal, there is too much information to catch up.”
At the heart of this new season, Robby’s journey. After a particularly grueling shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center during season 2, Noah Wyle’s character leaves town for a motorcycle trip in search of clarity. The showrunner reveals something we don’t see on screen:
“In the final moments of the finale, we see him with the abandoned baby in his arms. Robby finally puts her down and decides to leave. He feels he has to go now, because he’s been talking about it for so long…”
A departure which will not be without consequences:
“We will see in season 3 that he returns, but he does not return to the hospital straight away. He will appear in episode 1, but he will have stayed away from work longer than expected, longer than the three months initially planned…”
Clearly, season 3 will begin when the good Dr. Robby returns to business, after this long break.
And contrary to what the end of season 2 suggested, Robby will not take in the abandoned baby: “No. We joked about it together one day, saying that we could do a scene with him on a motorbike and the baby in a baby carrier… But no. Not at all. We don’t yet know if we’ll come back to this baby anyway. Robby is already very busy with his personal quest!”
Finally, on the casting side, the announced absence of the character of Samira Mohan, played by Supriya Ganesh, will be dismissed out of hand: “She is simply not working that day…”
Season 3 of The Pitt is expected for January 2027 on HBO Max in France.
