Serial Tomb Raider by Phoebe Waller-Bridge: “A heroine that I love, and a vibe of the 1990s”
The screenwriter, actress and director, who has played games extensively since 1996, promises to treat Lara Croft with respect.
While she is currently playingIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Phoebe Waller Bridge remains in the theme of archeology and prepares the release of its series Lara CroftTom Raider. She said a little more about this live-action that she writes and produces for Prime Video.
While still a teenager, the director of Killing Eve And flea bag was completely addicted to the video game released in 1996. She notably evoked her memories of the game, and remembered the graceful movements of the heroine wandering in the middle of the tombs.
“She had an attitude and a strong will. But everything changed when the creators realized they could make a sex symbol out of it.” she explained in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: “I’m a fighter too”
So when Amazon asked her to develop a series inspired by the game, the teenager buried in her simply jumped for joy: “I heard her say to me: ‘Pay homage to Lara!’”, she added.
“After working on Dying can wait and on Indiana Jones, I feel like I was cut out to write this live-action. What if I did an action series with everything I learned, for a character that I love, and give him back some of his 90s vibe?”added the director.
Although the franchise has already had its share of adaptations, including the 2001 film in which Angelina Jolie plays Lara Croft, Phoebe Waller-Bridge remains convinced that she can “do something a little dangerous”.
“I can do something exciting with tomb Raider. I already have an audience that adores Lara and who I hope will continue to adore her. And it’s an unusual position, a good old Trojan Horse”she concluded.
For the moment, no release date has been revealed, especially since the series is delayed due to the strike of Hollywood writers.
