Sofia Coppola drops new film with Kirsten Dunst

After Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, The Bling Ring And The PreySofia Coppola announced last year a new project with actress Kirsten Dunst in an interview with Town and Country. Filming was scheduled to begin this year. But it seems that the film has no place in this era, considered gloomy by the director:
“It was too sad. In these dark and confusing times, I want to offer some hope and beauty in the world. Then you think and you tell yourself that you don’t want to do something superficial either, because the period calls for deep things”, she told the magazine She.
Three years later Priscillawhich featured the love story between the very young Priscilla (Cailee Spaeny) and Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi), the filmmaker’s ninth feature film will therefore not see the light of day. In 2024, the filmmaker had already had to abandon her ambitious Apple series on The Custom of the Countrythe novel by Edith Wharton (the author of time of innocence). The book was finally adapted into a film, currently being filmed with Sydney Sweeney and Louis Garrel in particular.
No details of the project had been shared: no title, no plot. We just know that Kirsten Dunst had to play a real person. “But not someone famous,” the actress said in an interview.
Fans will nevertheless be able to find Dunst in another film of a slightly different genre… It’s official: Kirsten Dunst will be starring in Minecraft 2 ! The actress expressed her wish last year to participate in the adaptation of the legendary video game. It’s done !
