Spielberg and Scorsese are going to remake The Nerves, as a series!
30 years after his thriller, which was already a remake, Martin Scorsese is preparing a new adaptation of the novel The Executioners.
It is not the best known of the films Martin Scorsesebut it is certainly one of the most distressing! Cape Feara.k.a Nerves on edge (in French), was a remake of Jack Lee Thompson’s thriller (1962), where the disturbing Robert DeNiro stalked Nick Nolte and his family (Robert Mitchum And Gregory Peck were in the original).
And a third version could see the light of day soon, in the form of a television series, produced by Universal. Martin Scorsese would be back behind the scenes, alongside Steven Spielberg (via Amblin). This would mark Scorsese and Spielberg’s first-ever television project together. Nick Antosca (The Act) would be the showrunner.
According to the pitch of this 2023 version of Cape Fearthe story would add new characters: “A storm brews for two married lawyers when an infamous killer from their past is released after years in prison. A tense contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with True Crime in the 21st century.”
Let us remember that at the base, there is the novel The Executioners, written by John D. MacDonald (1957). Above all, we must remember that Steven Spielberg was initially supposed to achieve Nerves on edge. But too violent for him, he finally preferred to concentrate on Schindler’s Listnot without designating (and convincing) Martin Scorsese as his replacement. Spielberg also kept a producer credit on the film.
We don’t yet know who will broadcast the series. Nerves on edge. This could be on the Peacock platform, that of Universal (which does not exist in France). Or on Apple TV+ which has a deal with Scorsese. But others like HBO are also interested, suggests Deadline, which confirms that a bidding war is underway.
We are especially waiting to know the casting. No date announced yet.
