Stranger Things: “The show would be much better if we killed more people”
Gaten Matarazzo’s plea for carnage in Hawkins.
It’s an old debate that drives the casting of Stranger Things for quite a few years. Are the authors bold enough? Quite brutal with their characters? Millie Bobby Brown said in 2022 that he regretted that the Duffers were “too sensitive” and dare not kill more important people.
An opinion shared this week by Gaten Matarazzo. During MegaCon Orlando (via CBR), the actor in turn explained that more characters should have been killed off, as we enter the final season:
“This may sound absurd, but we should kill off more characters in the script. This show would be a lot better if the stakes were a lot higher. Knowing that at any time any of these kids could be on it is loud. I feel like we’re all too safe…”
Comments which arrive after season 4 had only one victim and among the second knives. So should we expect carnage in season 5 which has just started filming? The actors of Stranger Things will they have succeeded in putting pressure on the authors?
Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have already answered this question: no! “If you kill Mike, it’s just depressing. In the end, we are not Game of Thrones. This is Hawkins, this is not Westeros!”
