Successful debut for Emilia Pérez at the French box office
Even if the latest Jacques Audiard remains a good distance from the top hits: Monte-Cristo and Deadpool 3.
This is a much better start than for The Olympicsthree years ago. Riding on its success at Cannes, Emilia Perez has had a solid debut at the French box office. The musical comedy recorded 260,000 admissions for its first week, three times more than the previous film by Jacques Audiard (released in 2021). A good score, equivalent to that of the Brothers Sisters (in 2018) and even higher than its Palme d’Or Dheepan (2015). But Emilia Perez also does significantly less than Of Rust and Bonewhich opened with over 600,000 spectators (in 2012).
Besides, Emilia Perez is quite far from the top of the French box office, since Audiard only comes in 5th position in the ranking. This is The Count of Monte Cristo which maintains exceptional attendance: almost 500,000 more admissions in the 9th week and the film adapted from Alexandre Dumas is approaching 7.5 million admissions.
It should be noted behind that Deadpool & Wolverine continues its good progress and quietly crosses 3 million admissions in France, something the MCU had not managed to do since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022.
Finally, Alien: Romulus falls to 4th place at the box office. After a good start, the horror film is experiencing a clear drop in attendance: 250,000 more admissions. The Return of the Xenomorphs has so far sold just over 700,000 tickets in France after two weeks. Let us recall that the last part of the saga, Alien: Covenanthad ended at 1.3 million (2017).
