Here is the editorial of this new issue:

Bitter victory

118 days! It was the duration of the unprecedented strike that shook all of Hollywood. After the screenwriters’ union, the actors’ union will therefore have succeeded in imposing its terms on the studio alliance and in making the biggest corporations (which had started the conflict naively thinking that the artists’ representatives would be conciliatory) capitulate. SAG-Aftra thus obtained a new three-year collective agreement, an increase in minimum wages, safeguards against artificial intelligence as well as a bonus system for streaming rebroadcasts. Never seen ! As Jamie Lee Curtis wrote on Instagram moments after the deal was announced, “persistence pays off!” ».

Hollywood has indeed discovered that the dream factory does not run on its own and has been violently overtaken by reality. However, the real question to ask now is not what pays, but rather who will pay? For 118 days, the 160,000 members of SAG-Aftra (and the 2.5 million people who depend financially on filming) did not receive any salary: they came out exhausted from these endless negotiations – series actor Kevin Zegers explained on November 8 that “If it hadn’t ended today, there would have been riots”. But the studios also lost a lot of money in the process. We are talking about more than 5 billion losses and everyone fears what will follow: in the coming months, there could be fewer productions, fewer films and fewer series. So less work. The industry has emerged from the strike, but probably not from the crisis.
