The animated film All You Need Is Kill, Japanese adaptation of Edge of Tomorrow, will replay the story told by Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, but closer to its manga origins.

Still no Edge of Tomorrow 2. But the story will come back in another form.

Warner Bros. Japan unveils a new trailer for All You Need Is Killedanimated adaptation of the cult novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, illustrated by Yoshitoshi Abe and published in 2004 (see below). It is from this same book that was taken Edge of Tomorrow (2014), directed by Doug Liman with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

The film is directed by Kenichiro Akimoto, co-directed by Yukinori Nakamura, and written by Yuichiro Kido.

The pitch: “After the invasion of an unidentified alien plant, Rita finds herself trapped in a time loop, forced to relive the same day over and over again,” details the synopsis. “With each loop, she learns. She fights. Her memories and experiences sharpen her skills, transforming her into a fearsome warrior. Yet the endless cycle of death and loneliness begins to wear her down. Then, she meets Keiji. Two lost souls, trapped in an endless war. Could their meeting change fate?

The voice cast brings together Ai Mikami (Rita), Natsuki Hanae (Keiji), Kana Hanazawa (Shasta) and Hiccorohee (Raychell).

Presented in American preview last week at New York Comic Con, All You Need Is Killed will be released in ten Japanese cinemas on January 9, 2026.
