Discover the new Harry Bosch in the Prime Video prequel series

A series entitled Bosch: Start of Watch has just been commissioned and will tell the story of the investigator’s youth.

Clearly, Harry Bosch is indestructible! The character from Michael Connely’s detective novels will be entitled to a fourth series. After the original series which lasted 7 seasons (2014–2021), after the sequel Bosch: Legacy (2022–2025), and the spin-off Ballard with Maggie Q, released in 2025 on Prime Video, it’s time for the prequel.

Return to the Los Angeles of 1991. The MGM+ platform has just ordered Bosch: Start of Watch, a new series for Prime Video which will look back on the beginnings of the legendary inspector Harry Bosch, then a young cop confronted with a city on the verge of implosion.

So who will take over the role played for 15 years by Titus Welliver? This time, it’s Cameron Monaghan – well known to Shameless fans and a major face of Star Wars video games – who will don the Harry Bosch costume.

He will meet Omari Hardwick (Power) in the cast who will be Eli Bridges, a seasoned police officer who will take him under his wing.

According to the official synopsis, Bosch: Start of Watch “will plunge into a city on the brink, consumed by racial tensions, gang violence and a fractured LAPD. Amid daily interventions and growing unrest, Bosch finds himself embroiled in a high-profile heist and a web of corruption that will test his loyalty to his badge — and will forge the future detective guided by the motto: ‘Everyone counts, or no one counts.'”

Michael Wright, president of MGM+, promises a return to the roots faithful to the original spirit: “We are delighted to expand the universe of Bosch with this fascinating origin story, which shows how one of the most beloved detectives on television became the man we know today. Starring Cameron Monaghan and Omari Hardwick, and under the direction of Michael Connelly and our producers, Start of Watch will deliver a raw, authentic narrative true to the franchise’s legacy.”

Production will begin in 2026 in Los Angeles. The series will be co-created by Tom Bernardo (Bosch, Bosch: Legacy) and Brian Anthony, with Michael Connelly producing. No release date yet.
