The Deauville Festival unveils its jury and 13 films in competition
The films made by Kristen Stewart and Scarlett Johansson are in the selection of the 51st edition of the American Cinema Festival, which will be held from September 5 to 14.
We already knew that Golshifteh Farahani will be the president of the Jury of the Deauville Festival. That special prices will be awarded to Joel Edgerton and Zoey Deutch. That a tribute will be paid to Paul Newman.
The 51st edition of the Cinephile Norman meeting continues to take shape, since the festival announced today the list of personalities who will judge the films in competition, before unveiling their record on September 13, at the end of the event.
Golsfhifteh Farahani will thus be surrounded by director Thomas Cailley (The animal kingdom), from actress Eye Haïdara (The meaning of the party), from director Katell Quillévéré (Time to love), from the Philippine actress Leroy-Beaulieu (Emily in Paris), Director, actor, director and author Vincent Macaigne, choreographer and director Benjamin Millepied and the director, screenwriter and animator Emilie Tronche (Samuel).
They will have to choose from the 13 films presented in competition. Among them, we find works already passed by the Cannes Film Festival, such as The Chronology of Waterfirst film directed by actress Kristen Stewart, or Eleanor The Greatwhich marks the beginnings behind the camera of another famous actress, Scarlett Johansson. We also note in this selection the name of Julie Pacino (yes, yes, the daughter of Al), who will present I Live Here Nowhis first feature film, influenced by David Lynch, Dario Argento and the Coen brothers. Or that of Joshua Oppenheimer, famous author of documentaries (The Act of Killing,, The Look of Silence) which signs a post-extra fiction taking place in a bunker where Tilda Swinton, George Mackay and Michael Shannon coexist.
In the press release, Aude Hesbert, the festival director, thus describes the tone of this competition:
“”A vibrant and kaleidoscopic selection, which paints a portrait of an American composite youth, in search of meaning and identity. Through these works, an instantaneous of the quest for lost carelessness is emerging: that of a generation confronted with the wounds of filiation, the challenges of the transition to adulthood, but also with economic, environmental and political issues which redefine its future in depth. “
