Winning service for Zendaya at the US box office with Challengers
Luca Guadagnino's film makes a successful debut and dethrones Civil War across the Atlantic.
Challengers was the weekend's big release in the United States, and the sexy, subversive, R-rated drama set in the world of tennis took the plunge. Certainly thanks to the phenomenon Zendaya, Challengers occupies first place in a US box office in poor form. The film of Luca Guadagnino totaled $15 million in 3,500 theaters. A good score for a sulphurous feature film and not really for everyone. But Challengers must still repay a budget of 55 million dollars and will have to rely on international markets to boost its revenues.
Waiting for, Zendaya dethrones Civil War. The American war film, in the lead for two weeks, fell to fourth place, collecting an additional $7 million, for $56.2 million in revenue in North America since its release (70 million worldwide) .
It is Unsung Hero, a musical biopic about the formation of the popular Christian rock duo For King & Country, which took second place at the US box office, raking in $7.7 million from 2,800 cinemas. The film led by Daisy Betts has no release planned in France.
Finally, we note that the blockbusters from the beginning of the year continue to do well, like Godzilla x Kong which remains on the podium and passes the mark of 180 million greenbacks across the Atlantic, just like Kung Fu Panda 4. For his part, Ghostbusters: The Ice Threat totaled 107 million at the US box office.
