The Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series is revealed in these photos
John Lithgow reprises the role of the powerful wizard and headmaster of Hogwarts in the new adaptation for HBO.
Here’s the first look at the new Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series!
Wizarding World fans discover these stolen photos of John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, in the future adaptation for HBO currently being filmed.
In these photos taken near the set, the American actor appears transformed: long white beard, small half-moon glasses and wizard robes in blue tones. Enough to reassure the community, even if some are already wondering: why does Dumbledore find himself alone on a beach, a scene which does not exist in the first volume of the novels?

John Lithgow, chosen in February 2025 after Mark Rylance’s refusal, confided his surprise to Screen Rant:
“It came as a complete surprise. I got the call while I was at the Sundance Film Festival for another film. It wasn’t an easy decision, because this role will probably define me for the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid. But I’m very excited.”

The actor thus becomes the fifth interpreter of Dumbledore, after Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, Jude Law and Toby Regbo.
The Harry Potter series, led by Francesca Gardiner (showrunner) and Mark Mylod (director), will adapt JK Rowling’s novels season by season.
Launching on HBO in 2027, with a first season inspired by Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
