The first reviews are in and Dune 2 is already setting America on fire!
“Right up there with the greatest science fiction films ever seen!”
Will Paul Atréides save American cinemas? The whole industry is waiting Dune 2 like the messiah, to wake up a box office that has been numb since the start of the year. At least the reviews should be positive. The first screenings took place last night in Los Angeles for a few journalists and guests. And the feedback has been spectacularly good. Some even believe that Denis Villeneuve directed one of the greatest science fiction films of all time!
“It’s an incredible movie“, enthuses Collider. “The soundtrack is brilliant. The entire cast was excellent. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. I am not joking. The film is 2 hours and 40 minutes long and I would have been happy to watch it for another hour!”
In a shock to no one, I absolutely loved #Dune2. Incredible filmmaking. Brilliant score. Entire cast was excellent. My only complaint was I wish it was longer. Don’t joke around. The movie is 2hr and 40 min(?) and I would have been happy to watch another hour. pic.twitter.com/6PZmfQTEAH

Same enthusiasm at Inverse where we talk about “triumph“, of a film “even more immense than the first, but much more intimate. Denis Villeneuve manages to streamline the book’s more alienating second half into a gripping, action-packed epic. He has mastered combat sequences on the level of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. And Zendaya is the star.”
DUNE: PART TWO is a triumph. Even more immense than the first, but much more intimate — Denis Villeneuve manages to streamline the more alienating second half of the book into a riveting, action-packed epic. TWO TOWERS-level mastery of battle sequences. Zendaya is the star. pic.twitter.com/gUYD6g3onN

Unanimously, everyone agrees that Dune 2 is more successful than the first part. For Uproxx, this sequel is just “phenomenal” and is located “right up there with the greatest sci-fi films ever seen”.
I was kind of mixed on the first Dune. DUNE: PART TWO is phenomenal. Up there with the greatest sci-fi movies I’ve ever seen. I want to ride a sandworm. #DunePartTwo

“Dune 2 is pretty darn impressive. Denis Villeneuve created truly VISIONARY moments. Austin Butler delivers a truly stunning performance (and it’s not just about the makeup). And the ending is very moving“, adds The Playlist before summing up to conclude: “A little bit too long ? Yes. Have I already forgotten it the next day? Yes. However, it’s going to be huge.”
Dune: Part Two is damn impressive. Villeneuve crafts some truly VISIONARY moments. Austin Butler gives a truly transformative performance (and not talking makeup either). Very moving ending. A wee bit long? Yes. Did I forget I saw it the next day? Yes. Still, gonna be massive. pic.twitter.com/ARooLrTK8z

Other opinions in the same vein were posted on the networks following the screening. If they are not to be taken literally (we can never recall enough that the American press was enthusiastic about Wonder Woman 1984 ahead of its release), they suggest at least one trend: reviews of Dune 2 will be overwhelmingly positive and this should seriously boost its box office score. What all of Hollywood is ultimately praying for today.
Dune 2 will be released on February 28, 2024 in cinemas in France.
Some of the visuals in Dune: Part Two had me so astonished, I feel like I understand how everyone felt seeing Star Wars for the first time back in 1977. It’s just unbelievable at times.

#DunePartTwo is a giant epic, a masterclass of crafts from Greig Fraser’s exceptional photography to Patrice Vermette’s magnificent world building. Denis Villeneuve has delivered his magnus opus directing one of the best sci-fi films for generations to come. pic.twitter.com/Vvfs8YeFIi
