The flop gets worse for Sydney Sweeney and Christy
A 91% drop in attendance between the first week (already catastrophic) and the second is unheard of!
Technical knockout for Christinethe biopic of boxing champion Christy Martin carried by Sydney Sweeney.
The film has just set a record… but not the good one: the worst drop in attendance in the history of the US box office from one weekend to the next.
After an already very worrying start, at only $1.3 million, the feature film completely collapsed: barely $108,487 collected in the second week. A drop of -91.7% between week 1 and week 2, this constitutes the worst fall never recorded since box office records existed.
It should be noted that this impressive drop has a concrete reason: faced with the carnage of the first week, a number of American cinemas directly withdrew Christine of the poster. Initially released in more than 2,000 theaters, the boxing film lost 1,200 screens in its second week. And in only 900 cinemas, Sydney Sweeney collapsed, with an abysmal average of 90 dollars per theater…
An industrial accident, since Christine has an estimated budget of $15 million, to which is added a major marketing campaign. It remains to be seen how Sydney Sweeney will manage to recover from such a flop. For the moment, she assumes: “We don’t always make art for numbers, but for impact. And Christy was the most impactful project of my life. Thanks Christy. I love you.”
