The Mists: the new Netflix series from the makers of The Count of Monte Cristo

After Nero, Pio Marmaï will lead the investigation into a serial killer for the platform.

The popular detective novel writer, Olivier Norek, is once again in the spotlight on the small screen. A new Netflix series is based on his story In the Mists of Capelins. It is the successful duo Mathieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, directors of The Count of Monte Cristo, The First Name and The Best Still to Come, who will direct the adaptation.

The author himself shared the news on Instagram this Monday. Best-selling author, Olivier Norek has written more than 10 novels in a hybrid style that combines detective intrigue and social themes. These “social thrillers” were a great success and earned him 9 prizes including the European Crime Prize. In 2025, he was made a Knight of Arts and Letters.

The Surface series, broadcast on France 2 in September with Laura Smet and Tomer Sisley, was also based on an eponymous novel by the writer. Surface had attracted more than 5 million viewers. Modeled on the same 6-episode format, we could expect similar success for Les Brumes.

We will follow the story of Victor Coste, a police officer exiled on the island of Saint-Pierre, who will try to identify a serial killer who is plaguing the region. To do this, he must succeed in making Anna, the only survivor of the assassin who has become mute, speak. But the dense mists of the island soon overshadow the investigation.

On the casting side we will find Pio Marmaï in the main role. Alongside him Alicia Da Luz (Lent), Florence Loiret-Caille, Stéphane Caillard (Ad Vitam), Zineb Triki (The Eagles of the Republic), Bouli Lanners (The Night of the 12th), Léonie Dahan-Lamort (The Bite), Paul Beaurepaire (When Autumn Comes) and Patrick Mille (The Count of Monte Cristo).

Olivier Norek did not fail to express his joy on the social network: “Since I created Captain Coste, I have always wondered who could play him. Pio Marmaï is now obvious to me, and it is an honor as well as a source of pride.”

Filming began on January 13.
