The new Harry Potter speaks for the first time

Little Dominic McLaughlin recounts this “surreal” moment when he put on the tunic for the first time.

He is only 11 years old and he has huge pressure on his shoulders.

Dominic McLaughlin, chosen to play Harry Potter in the future HBO series adapted from JK Rowling’s novels, is expressed for the first time on this special job.

In full promotion of his film Grow – where he shares the poster with Nick Frost, future Hagrid in the series – the young actor entrusted the BBC his feeling when putting the scar and round glasses:

“It was a bit surreal, to be honest, because I have always been a huge fan of Harry Potter when I was a child. It is the role everyone dreams, obviously, so I’m delighted to be able to play it.”

The shooting of the series is underway in the United Kingdom and should continue until spring 2026. McLaughlin is surrounded by Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger) and Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), all three selected from more than 30,000 candidates during a giant casting organized last year.

HBO has already revealed a first overview of McLaughlin in Harry, in Hogwarts outfit, a well visible scar on the forehead. The rest of the casting brings together John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Rogue), Katherine Parkinson (Molly Weasley), Lox Pratt (Draco Malefoy) or Bel Powley (Petunia Dursley).

Expected as one of the biggest television events for the coming years, the Harry Potter series will arrive in 2027 on HBO Max.
