The Tomb Raider series by Phoebe Waller-Bridge is confirmed, Sophie Turner will be Lara Croft
The creator of Fleabag will stage the Game of Thrones star in new archaeological adventures.
It’s official: Amazon has found its interpreter to embody the Lara Croft video game icon.
Sophie Turner, revealed by her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, will lend her features to the cult adventurer. The British actress, already seen in jeans Gray in X-Men films and recently in the British thriller Joan (2024), had been mentioned in recent months, but her participation is now confirmed.
The series, developed since 2023 by Amazon MGM, will come into production on January 19, 2026. Few details on the plot filtered, except that the project is described as an “epic” and “international” adventure, in the words of Jennifer Salke, patron of Amazon MGM.
Behind the camera, we will find in particular the English author Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The Fleabag star will be a creative and executive producer, will also co-register the scenarios with Chad Hodge, who will officiate as Co-showrunner. Jonathan Van Tulleken will make several episodes.
In a press release, Phoebe Waller-Bridge was enthusiastic:
“I am delighted to announce the incredible Sophie Turner in the role of Lara, alongside this exceptional creative team. It is not every day that we have the chance to create a series of such a magnitude around a character we loved growing up. Everyone here is passionate about Lara, and everyone is as extravagant, courageous and funny as it. Exit the artifacts … Croft arrives.”
