What if Robert Downey Jr. returned to the MCU in Captain America 4?

The X-Men, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers Récasted after Avengers: Secret Wars?

“Reboot is a word that is scary”. Kevin Feige, Marvel’s boss, takes stock before the outing of the fantastic four: first steps.

Marvel is a turning point. Approaching the release of the new adaptation of Four fantasticwho arrive in the MCU (this Wednesday in France), Kevin Feige brought together the press to evoke the future of the franchise. The great manitou of Marvel Studios went master in the art of speaking to say nothing, but this time he had some real announcements to make.

Avengers: Endgame had already turned a page for the cinematic universe inaugurated in 2008 by Iron Man. But the issues were too important to start from scratch, and the MCU continued on its momentum, despite the departures of the Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) and Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America). A strategy that has not always paid.

Between the boom in TV series, thanks to COVID and development, the streaming platform, and some serious critical and commercial failures in the cinema (Thor 4,, Ant-man 3,, Captain Marvel 2,, Captain America 4…), The lucrative saga ended up running out of steam. And it was necessary to bring RDJ back in the game, in a new role (Dr Doom), to really rekindle the flame which was starting to go out for an increasing part of the Fan Base Marvel.

As reported VarietyFeige therefore confirms that the time of the last dance came for a good part of the actors of the MCU. Starting with the old guard of X-Men (Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn…), who will be at the heart of the next two Avengers (Doomsday And Wars secrets), before taking their reverence. The next film X-Menalready in preparation (with Jake Schreier, the director of Thunderbolts* At the helm), will introduce new actors in the shoes of the main characters as well as mutants never seen on the big screen. A new arc inspired by the path taken by Marvel comics after Secret Wars, in 2015.

“”We do not use this story only to conclude the stories we told after Endgam – and you can watch the comics Secret Wars To see where it takes us – the goal is clearly to set up the future. Endgam spoke, literally, of fine. The heart of Secret Wars It is to initiate things.“”

Kevin Feige, however, refuses to present this new era as a reboot, a total restart of the Marvel system, preferring the term reset, which means more or less the same thing in computer language (reset). But that we must understand here as a delivery on time:

“”Reboot is a word that is scary. Reboot it can mean a lot for many people. Putting the records on time, with a singular timeline, that’s what we’re thinking. It is in the film X-Men that it will happen.“”

But that’s not all. Feige also indicated that Tony Stark and Steve Rogers could also be relieved, even if it will be difficult to make the public Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans forget. It is the lot of all the franchises that cross time, he justifies.

“”Amy Pascal and David Heyman are currently looking for a new James Bond. David Corenswet, the new Superman, is incredible. It will always be like that. I think it’s hard for anyone to take over when an actor played such a big role“, Consider Feige, recalling that at the time no one imagined that Sean Connery could be replaced in James Bond.

So who will take up the costume of Iron Man or Captain America? Paris is open …
