“There you go”: The Minions try their hand at artificial intelligence and it’s nonsense! (video)
“The future is in good hands.” Really ?
Double promo for Universal during this weekend’s Super Bowl: in addition to revealing a new effective teaser of The Fall Guythe adaptation of The Man Who Fallen in action comedy with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, the studio has shared a never-before-seen video of Despicable Me 4. A pure mockery of a recent phenomenon that worries many in Hollywood: the development of artificial intelligence.
Marvel/Star Wars: Samuel L. Jackson fears the use of Artificial Intelligence in Hollywood
Gru’s little henchmen specifically attack software like MidJourney, which allows you to create visuals from scratch using keywords. Often, details are wrong: for example, humans have more than five fingers or they eat inappropriately… This has not escaped the creators of the Minionswho therefore seize AI to transform it into a tool of Evil.
“With Artificial Intelligence, the future is in good hands”the voice-over tells us, before another timbre, feminine and clearly artificial, teases the upcoming release of Despicable Me 4. We then see thousands of Minions creating anything and everything thanks to AI.
In addition to playing with the fact that intelligence is certainly not one of the qualities of the little yellow men created by Pierre Coffin, Illumination plays with a tendency that can really be poorly developed, if it falls precisely between the hands of people with nefarious goals. Like a film or series producer using AI to replace actors, screenwriters or voice actors, in order to no longer pay them, for example? This very serious question was at the heart of the debates during the Hollywood strike from last year.
The teaser is short, but a source of excellent jokes, notably the first: to illustrate the concept of “comic royalty”or the idea of copyright, the Minions software creates an image of two “Kings of comedy”, namely Steve Carrel and Will Ferrell, who double key characters in the saga. We won’t soon forget this image!
Despicable Me 4 will follow Gru who became a father. The animated film is expected in theaters on July 3, 2024, and here is its (real) trailer. Created by animators, not AI controlled by Minions. Well… we suppose?
