Thierry de Peretti is back on his island in In His Image (trailer)
A year after his César for Investigation into a State Scandal, the Corsican director adapts a novel by Jérôme Ferrari for the big screen.
“Fragments of the life of Antonia, a young photographer from Corse-Matin in Ajaccio. Her commitment, her friends, her loves are mixed with the major events of the political history of the island, from the 1980s to the dawn of the 21st century. It is the fresco of a generation.”
After going up to the capital for Investigation into a state scandal (César for Best Adaptation in 2023), Thierry de Perettito whom we also owe A violent life (2017) and The Apaches (2013), returns to his beloved Corsica with As his lookwhich mixes small and large History to tell the story of the island and its struggles. A political drama as much as a personal one, the film does not escape its tragic aspects, which we discover in the trailer below. However, according to Thierry de Peretti:
“A lot of scenes are comedy sequences for me. Almost all of them, even the most violent ones, have something burlesque about them. But I think that the humor also comes a lot from the spirit, from the humor of the actresses and actors in the film, and therefore from the characters.”
Enough to add another dimension to these first images:
As his lookit is the adaptation of the homonymous novel by Jerome Ferraripublished in 2018. This is the first time that Thierry de Peretti has taken on this exercise, and he does so with Jeanne Aptekmanwho also worked on his previous film:
“When reading As his lookI was quickly captivated, but also troubled, because I had just finished A violent life and I had the impression that the novel, in a certain way, was in dialogue with my filmsays the director. At first, I thought it would be stupid to adapt it, because it would be like trying to do the same thing again, just changing the characters… but, oddly enough, that’s exactly what made me want to do it.”
A company that earned him a return to the Croisette this year: As his look was presented at the Quinzaine des Cinémathèques, eleven years later The Apaches.
To embody Corsica in all its human and politic aspects, Thierry de Peretti called upon Clara-Maria Laredoa student of Political Science, former parliamentary assistant at the European Commission, who here takes her first steps in front of a camera.
By his side, Marc’Antonu Mozziconacci, Louis Starace, Barbara Sbraggia, Saveria Giorgi, Andrea Cossu, Pierre-Jean Straboni or Antonia Buresi.
As his look will be released in theaters on September 4.
