Thunderbolts* pays an A24 way and reacted the studio

Marvel is trying an offbeat promo for her new film.

“The film ended up becoming a kind of thriller of ultra stylish assassins, like an independent film of A24, but with Marvel superheroes.”

Recent words of Florence Pughin an interview with Empirewere not trivial. Marvel wants to ride the wave A24 With its next feature film, Thunderbolts*which features a bunch of anti-heroes gathered to save the world in the absence of Avengers. In the process, the studio has launched a new stage in its promo, pressing the line even more, listing the CV A24 of the talents involved on the film.

A new trailer (to see below) thus compiles plans of Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan and Julia Louis-Dreyfuswith a panel citing the A24 films in which they played (Midsommar,, A different man And You Hurt my feelings). But that’s not all.

The video also highlights the pedigree of director Jake Shreier, known for the series Fierce (Beef In VO), an A24 production released on Netflix. Of editor Harry Yoon, who worked on him on Minar. Of the director of photography Andrew Droz Palermo who distinguished himself on The Green Knightand the set of sets, Grace Yun, on Heredity. Finally, Marvel Studios also recruited the group behind the music of Everything Everywhere All at OnceHis lux.

To top it off, the trailer is punctuated by a big electro sound (“OPR” by the French artist Gesaffelstein) and entitled “Absolute Cinema” (yes, as in the famous meme of Martin Scorsese, whose anti-Marvel remarks had caused a lot of ink). According to the comments posted on the YouTube channel of Marvel, this assembly won the public.

What does A24 think of this campaign? The independent studio’s Twitter account reacted enigmaticly with an image drawn from season 2 ofEuphoria (HBO series produced by… A24) where the character of Maddy Perez, played by Alexa Doumie, loose: “Wait, this play speaks us?“Looking at a school show openly mocking certain students from the school.

We do not know if A24 is really annoyed or simply amused to see his label used in this way. For Marvel, this is an opportunity to give yourself a cool and offbeat image. But also an admission of weakness. After the modest score of the last Captain America At the box office, the studio is trying to rekindle the public’s interest with the image of a “competitor” who does not box in the same category.
