Vincent Macaigne is Out of Time for Olivier Assayas (trailer)
The actor is confined with Micha Lescot, Nine D'Urso, Nora Hamzawi and Maud Wyler in this film which will be released on June 19.
“Paul, a director, and his brother Etienne, a music journalist, are confined to the countryside in the house where they grew up. With them, Morgane and Carole, their new companions. Each room, each object, the trees in the garden, the paths running through the undergrowth remind them of the memories of their childhood, and of their ghosts.”
Four years after the first confinement, Olivier Assayas invites us to enter the societal bubble formed by its characters. A beautiful bucolic escape far from a city that has become synonymous with danger, this trip to the countryside is the setting for family tensions with an autobiographical as well as universal echo.
After devoting himself to Irma Vepan eight-episode mini-series created for the giant HBO based on his 1996 film of the same name, Olivier Assayas goes green and returns to his roots with a film strongly reminiscent of Summer timewhere it was also a question of family gathering in a country house.
However, Olivier Assayas refers here to a period that he calls “extraordinary”in that it took us all out of our ordinary, deprived us of our time.
“(…) I did not look for the scenario of Out of timeit happened to me rather than I caused it, says the French director. (…) I wrote it at a particular time: it's the very end of confinement (…). I then began to write in this floating state, like a kind of reverie. (…) It's as if I had drifted towards a new writing for me, which would take into account, or integrate, or represent what we had just experienced, and which seemed extraordinary to me (in the sense of outside of the ordinary, freed from the ordinary) but at the same time abandoned to the question of knowing what to do with it exactly.”
A reverie carried by a quartet of actors led by Vincent Macaigne that Olivier Assayas finds after Double Lives (2019) and Irma Vep (2022). This is Vincent Macaigne's first film to be released in 2024, after his participation in three feature films last year, including Bonnard, Pierre and Marthe which he displays in tandem with Cécile of France.
In Out of timeit is accompanied by Micha Lescotwhich we will soon find on the Croisette in the Spectators! ofArnaud Desplechin ; of Nora Hamzawicurrently showing at Stolen painting of Pascal Bonitzer ; of Maud Wyler (Her Father's Daughter, Bernadette) ; and of Nine of Urso.
