What is Lilo & Stitch’s live action remake worth? (critical)

Dean Fleischer Camp, the director of Marcel Le Coquillage, managed to keep the soul of the original Disney, despite a few lengths.

After the fairly massive rejection of the latest, Snow whiteit is therefore the turn of Lilo & Stitch to join the large live-action family. While until today, despite a parade of adaptations that reports big, rare are the ones that have managed to get out of the game.

It was more necessary to discourage Dean Fleischer Camp – the director of the tender and poetic Marcel the shell (named to the Oscars) which celebrates Hawaiian culture through breathtaking images and a cast of main actors from the island. From the first minutes, Lilo built a world just at her: through her passion for animals, the little girl finds the happiness of a benevolent relationship that she struggles to create with other children. Eager to have a friend who to count on, his meeting with Stitch, this little uncontrollable blue extraterrestrial will change everything.

Dean Fleischer Camp took care here to preserve the very essence of the cartoon: a childish sweetness mixed with a measured brutality which rocked several generations. Loneliness always occupies a central place in the narrative with more contemporary looks. The choice to have Nani leave – Lilo’s little sister – for her studies without weighing an improvised mother’s role thus brings a touch of additional modernity. The very prosaic image of the family fades without weakening the touching relationship which unites these two sisters. Their relationship, meticulously detailed, then reveals all the flaws of this drama: the difficulty of finding its place when the family roles are suddenly redistributed. Even if it is done to the detriment of the friendship relationship that unites the little Hawaiian and her companion with a lively coat. The docility of the animal installed with an inexpensive speed, weakens in particular the intensity of their connection.

Visually, on the other hand, the live-action of Lilo & Stitch is a success. The Hawaiian landscapes with flamboyant colors stimulate all our senses and the small extraterrestrial in synthesis image matches rather well with paradisiac decorations. This is why despite some lengths, the live-action of Lilo & Stitch A success is revealed.
