“What would be the point?” The new series The Office will not be a reboot
Creator Greg Daniels is working on a sort of spin-off, announced last September.
Greg Danielsthe screenwriter who adapted the British version of The Office for the American channel NBC, is working on a new version of its cult office sitcom, led by Steve Carell and John Krasinski. The idea of this new series has been circulating for several months, but Daniels assures us today in an interview with The Wrap: it will not be a reboot!
“I don’t like to think of anything as a reboot actually. Because I feel like we’ve finished the story of The Office in beauty. The characters found a satisfying conclusion. I definitely wouldn’t want to do the same series again with a different cast! We had the best cast in the world at the time. The best ever on television! So no. Where would the point be in a reboot?”
That being said, he is definitely working on something related to The Officewhich looks more like a spin-off:
“The idea is maybe something in the way that The Mandalorian is a new series in the Star Wars universe… Do you know what I mean? Something like this documentary team’s idea, who would make a documentary on a different subject. That would be intriguing and creative. I don’t even know what we would call it, if there would still be The Office in the title… I don’t know if it would be a sister series or something like that. I don’t know what the term is. But what is certain is that the term “reboot” is not appropriate for what I have in mind.”
