When is Alien: Earth in the history of the saga?

A small point on the chronology of the franchise, to better understand the series of Disney Plus.

It’s time to go back down to earth, to face the xenomorphs!

Alien: Earth begins this Wednesday on Disney Plus. An fascinating SF epic, on a frightening futuristic blue planet, which promises us a creepy future (and not only because of the monsters). So when exactly the story of Alien is taking place: Earth? And where to place the declination of Noah Hawley in the vast chronology of the franchise which already has 9 films (counting the two Alien vs. Predator)?

The series takes place in 2120, two years before the Fatale equipped of the Nostromo in the original part of Ridley Scott (1979). A pivotal era, still a virgin of the industrial nightmare that will be an ancient Weyland-Yutani.

Hawley exploits it with clinical precision: his vision is anchored in the universe of the first two films, by voluntarily evacuating the mystical excesses of the prequels. As he said publicly, the creator of Alien: Earth prefers not to take too much account of the events of Prometheus (2012) and Covenant (2017), while starting the secret mission which will push the company to divert the Nostromo to LV -426. Alien: Earth is thus part of the transhumanist ambitions of Peter Weyland (late 21st century) and the chaos of Aliens (1986). It works like a discreet bridge, without trying to reconcile all the stories of the extended cannon.
