Will my beloved witch get her modern remake?

The old cult series from the 60’s could soon be revisited by the Fox channel, which is working on a new version of Samantha and Jean-Pierre.

Hollywood has been wanting to do magic with the tip of its nose for years.

And Fox could well go all the way this time: a modern remake of My Beloved Witch is in preparation.

The channel is developing a new “reinvented” version of the cult 60s sitcom, from the pen of Judalina Neira, screenwriter and producer of the hit Prime Video series The Boys and Daisy Jones and the Six.

According to Deadline, this modern retelling will be an hour-long series, co-produced by Sony TV and Neira’s production company, Famous Last Words, as part of its overall contract signed in 2024. The goal? Offering a “sincere and contemporary” version of the impossible love story between Samantha, a witch, and Jean-Pierre (Darrin), a mere mortal. The duo will once again have to deal with their respective families and their opposing worlds, between misunderstandings, cultural shocks and uncontrollable magic.

The original series My Beloved Witch (1964-1972) starred Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York (then Dick Sargent) in the lead roles, for a total of more than 250 episodes. A true phenomenon of American television, it spawned a spin-off (Tabitha, 1977).

Since the beginning of the 21st century, studios have tried to revive the myth, without success. There was this not very successful cinema film carried by Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell in 2005. But no sitcom remake has materialized despite various approaches and attempts… Will this time be the right one?
