13 times nominated! Emilia Pérez leads the 2025 Oscar nominations

There will be two French films in the running for Best Film. And Jacques Audiard and Coralie Fargeat will also be face to face for the statuette for Best Director.

Postponed for a week by the fires ravaging Los Angeles, the 2025 Oscar nominations fell this Thursday. And as expected, they make a lot of room for Emilia Pérez. The French film of Jacques Audiard is nominated 13 times in 12 categories, including Best Film, where it will compete among others Conclave, The Brutalist or the Palme d’Or Anorabut also The Substance. Here is a second French film nominated for the Best Film award, a great first in the history of the Oscars. It will also be noted that Jacques Audiard And Coralie Fargeattwo French directors, will face each other for the statuette for Best Director. This is the second time after the 1975 edition, when François Truffaut (for American Night) and Roman Polanski (for Chinatown) were also nominated together for an Oscar for best director.

Another success for the French industry, the appointments of Flow, the cat who was no longer afraid of watercompeting in two categories. If it is presented as a Latvian feature film because directed by Gints Zilbalodisit is a largely French co-production, since it was produced by the Sacrebleu Productions studio. Flow will be the favorite for the Oscar for best animated film and will at the same time be in the running – this is rare – for the Oscar for best foreign film… where Emilia Pérez will serve as the big favorite.

THE Oscars 2025 will be held on March 2 in Los Angeles and can be followed in France on Disney Plus.
