The new series of JJ Abrams already canceled! No season 2 to Duster
HBO Max does not renew Josh Holloway’s license.
There Dust of JJ Abrams arrives at the end of the road …
The retro detective series carried by Josh Holloway And Rachel Hilson will not come back for a second season on HBO Max, confirmed Variety.
Broadcast for the first time last May, Dust had just completed his first (and therefore unique) season last week. The show, co-created by Latoya Morgan And JJ Abramswas one of the ambitious partnership projects between Bad robot And Warner Bros. Television.
“Although HBO Max does not continue with a season 2, we are extremely proud to have collaborated with the talented co-creators JJ Abrams and Latoya Morgan, as well as with our partners in Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television”said the platform in a statement. “We thank Josh Holloway, Rachel Hilson and the whole team for their remarkable work.”
The story of Dust will have been hectic: announced in 2020 as part of the mega-contract binding Bad Robot in Warner Bros., the series had taken three years before being officially commanded by HBO Max. Broadcast in spring 2025, it remains to date the only project of the deal to have seen the light of day on the platform.
It is also the symbol of the difficulties of JJ Abramslately. The brilliant director and creator of cult series is struggling to find success. Disappeared from radars after the critical sinking of the last Star Wars: the ascent of Skywalker (despite his good results at the box office), he could not convince HBO to do his Demimondea huge SF project on which he has worked for years, in vain. And the cancellation of Dust Mark a new slowdown in the filmmaker’s trajectory, who is preparing, despite everything, at the moment, his return to the cinema with a film (of course science fiction) with a big budget carried by Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega and Emma Mackey …
