New Stargate series: Amazon officially opens a new door

We are already promised an “ambitious and emotional” new chapter that will honor the legacy while modernizing the universe.

It’s official: Amazon is ordering a brand new Stargate series, a comeback for a cult franchise that hasn’t opened a new stargate since 2018.

The project is entrusted to Martin Gero, a name that will speak to fans: he cut his teeth on one of the many spin-offs: Stargate: Atlantis, before creating the successful television thriller, Blindspot.

The pitch remains locked for now, but the series will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and broadcast on Prime Video.

Gero will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer.

Alongside him, Roland Emmerich, director of the original 1994 film, will be one of the producers. And to reassure purists, Brad Wright, creator of the spin-off series, Stargate SG-1, will be a consultant.

In a message addressed directly to fans, Gero promises to have “Stargate DNA” and dedicates this revival to those who have kept the gate active through conventions and viewing marathons.

Amazon, for its part, promises an “ambitious and emotional” chapter that will honor the legacy while modernizing the universe. As a reminder, the franchise started in 1994 with Kurt Russell and James Spader, then exploded thanks to SG-1 (10 seasons), followed by Atlantis (5 seasons), Universe, and a few other derivative projects.

No date or casting yet for the new Stargate series.
