Superman: Man of Tomorrow: James Gunn officially begins filming
With a first photo that teases the return of Lex Luthor… in a penitentiary.
The skies of Metropolis are about to rumble again.
The continuation of Superman by James Gunn, entitled Superman: Man of Tomorrowhas just entered production, as the director confirmed on the networks.
The boss of DC Studios shared a first image from the set: a chessboard, a badge from Van Kull prison in the name of a certain A. Luthor – aka the formidable Lex Luthor – and, a more unexpected detail, a bag of chips. A minimalist teaser, but one that says a lot…
Because this time, Superman (played by David Corenswet) will have to join forces with his worst enemy, Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult), to face an even greater threat: Brainiac, the ultra-intelligent antagonist (played by Lars Eidinger).
The film will also welcome Adria Arjona in the role of Maxima, an alien queen who is alternately an enemy and a potential romance in the comics.
She joins an already solid cast: Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific) and Aaron Pierre (John Stewart / Green Lantern).
As a reminder, Superman had revived the DC universe of Warner Bros. last summer with more than $600 million at the worldwide box office, establishing itself as the biggest superhero success of the year.
This new opus is still written and directed by James Gunn himself.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow will be released on July 7, 2027 in cinemas in France.
