The Harry Potter series has found its James and Lily Potter

Jasper Talbot and Hannah Chinn will play Harry’s parents in the new HBO adaptation. Harry Gilby also joins the cast as Charlie Weasley.

HBO’s Potter family is growing.

Jasper Talbot, seen very young in Broadchurch, will play James Potter in the series currently in production. Hannah Chinn, seen last year at the cinema in Conjuring: Judgment Day, will play Lily Potter, the parents of the famous wizard. The two actors will appear in the first season, adapted from the first volume, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

James and Lily Potter had appeared in the films before, through flashbacks, photographs and magical manifestations. They were mainly played by Adrian Rawlins and Geraldine Somerville.

Another new recruit: Harry Gilby will play Charlie Weasley, Ron’s older brother. A secondary character in the novels, he never appeared in the film adaptations. The HBO series will therefore deviate from the films on this point.

The first season will notably bring together Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. John Lithgow will play Dumbledore, Janet McTeer McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu Snape and Nick Frost Hagrid. Other names already announced include Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley and Warwick Davis, who will reprise the role of Filius Flitwick.

HBO has also begun revealing the cast for the second season, including Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart, Lenny Rush as Dobby and Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley.

The Harry Potter series is expected on HBO Max at Christmas 2026.
