A French series once again crowned at the International Emmy Awards

10 years after Engrenages, Les Gouttes de Dieu won the award for Best Drama of the Year.

The 52nd edition of International Emmy Awards which took place last night in New York had a damn French accent! And for good reason, the French series Drops of God (co-production with Japan) created by the French screenwriter Quoc Dang Tranand co-written with Clémence Madeleine-Perdrillat And Alice Vialwon the grand prize of the evening, that of Best Drama of the year.

Released in 2023 on Apple TV+, Drops of God is the television adaptation of a manga about wine. We find in the casting the French revelation Fleur Geffrierin the shoes of the heiress of an oenology legend, Alexandre Léger, who has been living in Japan for years and who has taken under his wing a young local talent (played by the Japanese pop star Tomohisa Yamashita). Fleur Geffrier was in New York to receive the Emmy alongside producers.

Drops of God becomes the 4th French series to win the International Emmy for Best Drama, after Braquo (2012), The Returned (2013) and Gears (2015). Since then, alone Lupine (2022) was nominated without winning.

In recent years, France has shone especially in comedies, notably winning the statuette for Ten percent (in 2021). But this year, HPI who was named was beaten by the Argentine series Palermo Division. The Flame (2023) and On the Verge (2022) were also in the running in past years.

In the rest of the list of these International Emmy Awards 2024we note that the English actor Timothy Spall won the best actor award for his portrayal of Peter Farquhar in the British detective series The Sixth Commandment.
