Beauty and the Beast: Disney is preparing a live action film about Gaston
But it would be without Luke Evans. The role would be recast.
“The most handsome is Gaston, the strongest is Gaston…”
You’re going to have it in your head all day… Because Disney continues to explore its animated catalog to adapt it into live action. Beauty and the Beast has already been done (with Emma Watson). But the studio is currently developing a spin-off dedicated to Gaston, the body-built and swaggering village hunter.
This live action film project derived from Beauty and the Beast will be based on a screenplay entrusted to David Callaham, already co-writer of Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. At this point, no specific plot details have been revealed and no director has yet been attached to the film.
Of course, the story is inspired by the famous French tale. Invented for the 1991 cartoon, Gaston is an arrogant hunter, incapable of accepting Belle’s repeated refusals. A massive character obsessed with his own virility, he owes his build in part to his extraordinary diet…
In the 2017 live action remake, Gaston was played by Luke Evans. But the Welsh actor is not expected to reprise the role. Disney would, on the contrary, plan a complete rereading of the character, with a new main performer and a new approach to this emblematic villain.
It should be remembered that the studio was already interested in Gaston for a live series, with Evans and even Josh Gad (LeFou), before Covid. But the pandemic nipped the project in the bud. Disney therefore wants to resurrect Gaston!
