Rob Reiner and his wife allegedly killed by their own son

Nick Reiner was arrested yesterday. He is suspected of murdering his parents in their Brentwood home on Sunday. The conditions of the tragedy remain to be clarified.

Nick Reiner, 32, son of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner, is currently in custody in California on suspicion of murdering his parents on Sunday afternoon.

According to online records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Nick Reiner was arrested Sunday evening at 9:15 p.m., before being officially imprisoned this Monday morning. At a press conference yesterday, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed that the suspect had been “charged with murder”.

At this point, no formal charges have yet been filed. In a press release, the Los Angeles Police Department indicated that the file will be transmitted to the prosecutor on Tuesday. Initially set at $4 million, bail was later canceled. Nick Reiner is currently being held without bail at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.

Their daughter discovered the bodies

Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found dead at their home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood on Sunday around 3:40 p.m. They were allegedly stabbed to death. The police then mentioned a homicide investigation, without naming a suspect or making an arrest immediately.

Five hours before her brother’s arrest, their daughter Romy Reiner, 27, discovered the bodies of her parents and alerted the emergency services. According to the magazine PEOPLEshe was the one who made the 911 call.

In an official press release, the police specify: “After initial findings, it was established that the Reiners were victims of a homicide. The investigation then revealed that Nick Reiner, their 32-year-old son, was responsible for their deaths. He was located and arrested around 9:15 p.m..”

A child marked by addictions

Nick Reiner had publicly spoken in the past about his serious difficulties linked to drug addiction. He was a regular guest on the podcast Dopeyhosted by Dave Manheim, dedicated to the chaotic journeys of addiction and withdrawal.

In an episode broadcast in 2018, he recounted a violent crisis that occurred after his parents asked him to leave the outbuilding where he lived on their property. "It’s not a big story," he then explained, claiming to no longer remember the facts precisely. He nevertheless detailed an episode of excessive consumption of stimulants, during which he had destroyed his entire home, going so far as to hit his television with his bare hands.

In another testimony, dating from 2017, Nick spoke of a theft committed as a teenager: $200 stolen from his parents to pay a sex worker he met via Craigslist. "I must have been 14 or 15," he recounted, describing the episode with a mixture of detachment and unease.
