Point Break will be entitled to a sequel… in series

A thriller that will ride on the 1991 classic.

We have already had a remake in the cinema. In 2015, Ericson Core signed a new Point Break carried by Édgar Ramírez and Luke Bracey, without much success.

Ten years later, Hollywood wants to catch up with the wave. But a sign of changing times, this time it will be in series. AMC Networks is currently developing a television adaptation of the cult 1991 film.

The series would take place in 2026, 35 years after the events of the original feature film, carried at the time by Patrick Swayze as a surfer bank robber and Keanu Reeves as an undercover FBI agent. If the project receives the green light, this Point Break will follow a new team of particularly dangerous robbers, whose activities would be directly linked to the mythical “Ex-Presidents gang” seen in the film.

A sort of sequel then.

At the helm of this serial rereading, we find Dave Kalstein, whose TV CV includes the thriller Butterfly for Amazon with Daniel Dae Kim, but also NCIS Los Angeles and Treadstone, the Jason Bourne spin-off series.

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by W. Peter Iliff, Point Break told the story of a group of Californian surfers specializing in bank robberies. Nicknamed the Ex-Presidents, they operated masked, disguised as Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter or Lyndon B. Johnson. The young FBI agent Johnny Utah infiltrated their gang before getting caught up in their extreme lifestyle, until a final chase that became legendary…
