Brian De Palma will direct a new film this summer

The 85-year-old filmmaker has not presented anything since 2019.

Legendary director Brian De Palma prepares his comeback with a new film, Sweet Vengeancewhich will begin filming this summer in Portugal.

First announced in 2018, the project is inspired by two real-life criminal cases and promises an approach close to true-crime documentaries: “I’m interested in the way they tell the crime story, so I’m going to do it their way, like on television”explained De Palma.

According to the American press, the film should also include two emblematic De Palma-style scenes, probably murders on stairs or elevators, and a long silent sequence following a man stalking a woman. Casting details and other reveals are expected soon.

Sweet Vengeance should be released in 2027.

This will be Brian de Palma’s first film since the pandemic. Now aged 85, the American director recently signed Dominoa thriller that went completely under the radar in 2019 and stuck at $300,000 in revenue. He had previously had more success with Passionin 2012, by bringing together Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace, in a sulphurous thriller which did not work but managed to get people talking.

The latest notable project from the filmmaker Carrie at the Devil’s Ballof Scarface or Incorruptibles actually dates back to his adaptation of Black Dahlia by James Ellroy (in 2006). A great dark thriller which divided critics and collected $50 million at the worldwide box office.
