Can Jumpers break the curse of Pixar original films? (trailer)
The studio continues to capitalize on its franchises, but has difficulty exploiting its new ideas.
Waiting for the much awaited Toy Story 5which will be released in theaters in June, a new Pixar original film, Jumperswill be wiped out on March 6, 2026. A category that the studio has no longer been able to sell to the public for several years, like the failure of the recent Elio (only $150 million in revenue worldwide).
After its disastrous start, Elementary (2023) saved the furniture by performing well over time, ending its career at 480 million dollars at the worldwide box office (but for a budget of 200 million). We have to go back to 2017 and Coco to find a true Pixar hit that isn’t a sequel.
Since then, we have seen Ahead fall, victim of Covid, then Drunk, Lucas And Red Alert release directly on Disney Plus. The calendar does not lie, the studio is now betting everything on its franchises. After Toy Story 5we will also be entitled to Coco 2 And The Incredibles 3…
But another original film was even announced a few months ago, Gattopresented last June at the Annecy Festival. The story of a black cat in trouble in Venice, Italy. Pixar can’t just rest on its past successes, it must continue to try new things.
So, the cute critters of Jumpers (Hoppers in original version) will they manage to overcome the curse? In any case, the promo promises a cool and fun animated comedy, where we follow Mabel, a young woman who transfers her consciousness into a robot-animal and goes to live in a pond ruled by a beaver king. Yes, it reminds us of the pitchAvatarand this was assumed from the first teaser revealed this summer.
Mabel can now communicate with animals, and after discovering their point of view, she is overcome by a spirit of rebellion: “Humans stole this little piece of land from us, we need to fight back“But she is going to be overtaken by events…
Jumpers is written and directed by Daniel Chong, the creator of the series Bear for one and one for you bear (broadcast in France on Cartoon Network). He worked as a designer on Bolt, Cars 2 Or Vice Versabut has never led a project of this scale.
