Darth Maul is back! Trailer for the new Star Wars animated series
It will be available in the spring on Disney Plus.
An essential figure in the Prelogy, Darth Maul only appeared in one film. But 25 years after the release of The Phantom Menace, the Sith student continues to fascinate Star Wars fans. So he will be entitled to his own series!
Announced in April 2025, this animated series centered on Maul is revealed today with a first trailer.
Created by Dave Filoni, the series is set after the events of The Clone Wars, during Palpatine’s reign on the Galaxy Far Far Away, but before Order 66 of Revenge of the Sith. Sam Witwer once again takes on the voice of the character, whom he has played for several years in the animated Star Wars universe.
The footage reveals Darth Maul attempting to rebuild his criminal syndicate as the Galactic Empire rises and consolidates its power. At the same time, the former Sith embarks on training a new apprentice, foreshadowing a more intimate dive into his strategy, his heritage and his need for control.
Sam Witwer specifies that the series picks up at a time when Maul is trying to rebuild himself after his defeat by Ahsoka:
“We find him trying to get back on his feet after Ahsoka literally knocked him to the ground.”
Before adding: “We discover new facets of the character. He has traits that we wouldn’t necessarily imagine, but which take on their full meaning given what he has been through.”
The creative team also includes Matt Michnovetz as head writer and Brad Rau as production supervisor.
