David Harbor to play ‘Colonel’ in new Rambo movie

The Stranger Things actor will take over the cult role played by Richard Crenna during the Stallone era.

It wasn’t my war, Colonel!

Rambo will reunite with his emblematic superior in the next prequel film, which will tell the story of his youth (before his complicated return to civilian life told in the first 1982 film). And it’s David Harbour, the famous sheriff of Stranger Thingswho will reprise the role.

He joins the cast of John Ramboto play Major Trautman, not yet promoted to the rank of Colonel at that time…

Rambo’s mentor was played in the previous films by Richard Crenna, who reprized the Green Beret until Rambo III.

Opposite Harbour, it’s Noah Centineo (young Netflix star of the romantic franchise To all the boys I’ve loved and action series The Recruit) who will play the main role: that of John Rambo, solitary war machine. The story will take place before First Bloodthe cult film starring Sylvester Stallone in 1982, which launched the saga.

This prequel will return to the origins of the character: Vietnam veteran, member of the special forces and last survivor of his unit. A man broken by war, but shaped by it, whose military skills will make him a formidable weapon in the face of a corrupt world.

Directing is Jalmari Helander (Sisu). Filming took place in Thailand and is now complete.

Also in the cast: Yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone) and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).
