Disney has got its hands on a highly coveted new fantasy saga
Impossible Creatures, the series of novels by Katherine Rundell, will be brought to the screen in the coming years.
It is perhaps the new Harry Potter phenomenon, the new fantasy saga which will make billions in cinemas within 10 years:

The pitch: “There is a secret place on our planet, carefully hidden to be protected from us. It is a wild and beautiful place, a land where all the mythical creatures still live and thrive. We call it the Archipelago…the last magical place remaining on our Earth.”

Katherine Rundell is already working on adapting the first two volumes for the big screen. The first volume, entitled Impossible Creatureswas published in 2023 in bookstores. Volume 2, The Poisoned Kingwas published just a few days ago.
Five books are planned in total. The young 38-year-old author, already rewarded and compared to JK Rowling, has already sold more than 4 million copies of her various novels around the world and has been crowned Author of the Year And Children’s Book of the Year in 2024 at the British Book Awards.
Bob Iger himself, CEO of Disney, salutes his work and is delighted to have gotten his hands on the rights: “When I read Impossible Creatures, I knew it belonged to Disney. I was immediately captivated by the vibrant universe imagined by Katherine and all the possibilities it offers. Written by Katherine herself, these films are in the best possible hands with our team at Walt Disney Studios.”
Disney doubles down on Warner Bros. and Netflix who were also in the running to acquire the rights.
For now, the writing of the scripts has only just begun. No casting or director has yet been announced, much less a release date.
