Drew Barrymore, Demi Lovato, Christina Ricci: they talk about their childhood as addicts
“If I have to work like a grown-up, I’m going to party like a grown-up!” In the documentary Child Star, they explain the havoc their early fame wreaked.
Demi Lovato has already explored extensively the personal suffering that followed her life as a child star for Disney. But in her new documentary, Child Starshe broadens the scope to all child stars.

I’m very responsible for my actions. That being said, when I had a 10-year-old daughter of my own, I found the whole thing absolutely incomprehensible. But hey, that’s how I grew up.”
The documentary will also see Christina Riccialcoholic from a young age. “I immediately started using drugs and alcohol as a teenager“, confides the one who first played in Sirensin 1990 (opposite Cher) before exploding in The Addams Family And Casper. “I don’t remember feeling like there was another way to be happy.” she remembers.
In front of her, Demi Lovato agrees and tells her own experience. Except I had to be very conscious of everything I did as a Disney star. Obviously you couldn’t swear or curse in public. You couldn’t be seen with red cups in your hand, because that could imply that there was alcohol in it.” And Christina Ricci to confirm: “I wasn’t allowed to have that kind of cup either. So I would put my alcohol in my Diet Coke can. I would say to my assistant, ‘Can I have a Diet Coke to warm me up, please?’ And he would get the message!”
A strategy that is clearly widespread on film sets, since Demi Lovato says that she hid her alcohol”in a coffee cup !”.
