Dylan O’Brien will be young Dan Aykroyd from SNL 1975, directed by Jason Reitman
The interpreters of Davy Chase and John Belushi have also been cast.
On April 10, the Ghostbusters will return once again in The Threat of Ice. But this time it’s not Jason Reitman who is in charge: if he remains co-producer and co-writer of the Sony blockbuster, he left his place as director to Gil Kenan, who had already worked on the script for the reboot with him.
It must be said that Jason Reitman is very busy these days: he is in the middle of casting SNL 1975, a comedy retracing, as its name suggests, the daily life of the cult American TV show Saturday Night Live, during a particular year. Which was not chosen at random: 1975 was the year of its launch, and the animators of the SNL were none other than Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, future stars of Blues Brothersor even Chavy Chase, a very popular actor at the time (and still famous among new generations for his role in Community).

Jason Reitman was not born: he came into the world in 1977. But his father having realized Ghostbusters with a good part of the actors from the SNL a few years later, he grew up surrounded by all these actors, and heard in person lots ofanecdotes more or less brilliant behind the scenes of the show – in 1983, Bill Murray notably hazed the very young Seth Green behind the scenes, a harmful behavior recently denounced.
Reitman therefore prepares SNL 1975 for Sony Pictures, based on a screenplay he co-wrote with… Gil Kenan, who is now responsible for Ghostbusters: The Frozen Menace. The circle is complete !
For this project, the duo surrounds themselves with a talented cast. The Hollywood Reporter announces that they have just found the interpreters of Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase and Garrett Morris: they will respectively be played by Dylan O’Brien (The labyrinth), Cory Michael Smith (Gotham’s Riddler), Lamorne Morris (May, December) and Matt Wood (known on Broadway for the show Spongebob).
In addition to this quartet at the heart of the founding of SNLthe cast will be composed of Gabriel LaBelle (The Fabelmans) in Lorne Michaels, its creator, Rachel Sennott (Bottoms) as his co-writer and ex-wife, Rosie Shuster, and Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) as NBC producer Dick Ebersol. Ella Hunt (Dickinson) will play Gilda Radner, Emily Fairn (Black Mirror) will be Laraine Newman and Kim Matula (A family in the ring), Jane Curtin.
SNL 1975 does not yet have a broadcast date, but knowing that its launch was planned for October of that year, it is quite possible that Sony is preparing its release right on the fiftieth anniversary of the show. See you in fall 2025?
