Everyone wants to kill Glen Powell: new Running Man trailer

Edgar Wright brings Stephen King’s novel up to date in action comedy mode.

4 years after the nightmare Last Night in Sohowhich scraped the veneer of nostalgia to explore the dark side of the sixties, Edgar Wright rediscovered his sense of humor. He is at the helm of a new adaptation of Running Man by Stephen King, which promises to be a big action comedy with explosions and valves in every corner.

However, the pitch is also quite gloomy. In a totalitarian dystopian America, Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is a desperate worker willing to do anything to save his seriously ill daughter. He then accepts a suicide mission: to participate in The Running Man, the number one show on television. If he survives the horde of professional killers who want him for 30 days, he will win a billion dollars.

This Running Man wants to distance itself from the 1987 film, with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and be more faithful to King’s text. The director of the Cornetto trilogy and Baby Driver obviously had a great envelope to have fun by placing its hero in situations each more deadly than the last. An (apparent?) lightness which will not make us forget the political and premonitory dimension of the story, which was set in… 2025 in the book, published in 1982.

Glen Powell (whom Stephen King validated after seeing Hitman) is also surrounded by a great cast, including Josh Brolin, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Colman Domingo, Emilia Jones and Michael Cera. Running Man will be released in France on November 19. Trailer:
